Under the cover of early morning clouds, we slipped our bow and stern moorings and pointed the bow south, embarking on the final leg of our journey down the American West Coast. In just 24 hours, we would be in a new country, fulfilling our dream of sailing to Mexico.
Though the skies were grey, our spirits were bright with anticipation. We eagerly awaited a break in the clouds to witness the eclipse that would pass directly overhead. After a few hours, the sky cleared, and we watched the celestial event unfold as we sailed towards Mexico.
The journey was mostly uneventful, with the sound of warships practicing over the radio and the sight of cruise ships illuminated like floating cities at night. By daybreak, we were approaching our destination. As the sun rose, the landscape changed dramatically, from California’s lush green to the arid, sandy stretches of Mexico. A sweet, dusty, burning smell welcomed us as we neared the shoreline.
By mid-morning, we were pulling into the harbour of Ensenada, our new home for the next month. We settled into Cruiseport Marina alongside other cruisers and cruise ships.
When we first set sail, reaching Mexico was our ultimate goal—a dream that often felt out of reach. But here we are, having turned that dream into reality. We made it to Mexico!
